The Universe That Wasn't
The experiment lasted eleven seconds. Then a star goes missing from the navigation database, a crew member remembers a conversation that never happened, and the personnel system reports eleven profiles for ten people. Earth says the Peregrine never came back. Now a second Peregrine has answered the hail, with the same crew and the same proof. Neither ship is lying. Only one survives.
